I decided to go for a lunch hike today. I work close to the mouth of the Big Cottonwood Canyon so it is easy to go up the canyon for a quick hike. This hike was reported to be 3 miles round trip, so I figured I could do it in about 90 minutes with travel time to and from work. At 1.5 miles, I could sense that I still had a ways to go. Luckily the cellphone reception was pretty good the entire hike and I was able to see the GPS tracks of another hiker and see that that I was more than halfway through.
To see the waterfall, you are looking at around 4 miles round trip. The main trail doesn’t go right to the waterfall, but there are two sections you can see from the trail on the other side. I have seen a picture of one person at the falls, so if you are adventurous it’s not far to get there. Also, if you want to go another half a mile round trip, keep on the trail until you get to the overlook where you can see up to Brighton ski resort.
The trail actually continues further on as well, but this was my stopping point.
