After being married for 12 years, my wife and I finally took a vacation, just the two of us, and left the kids at home. This was a surprise trip and my wife was very concerned about leaving the kids at home with grandparents. That lasted almost 24 hours into the trip and then she was on board saying things like, “We need to do this more often!” I have since made it a goal to have a big family vacation every year and a big couples vacation every other year.
This hike isn’t difficult, and it is very unique. Where else can you start off in a crater, travel through desert terrain, climb stairs, go through a cave, climb a spiral staircase, and end up having 360 degree views of ocean, and island (included the beautiful city of Honolulu. I highly recommend – this was long before I was using runkeeper, so I’m not posting the actual trail I used.
